The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, commended the “strong and lasting partnership” between Uganda and Ethiopia during a high-level meeting with the Ethiopian Ambassador to Uganda at the Special Forces Command Headquarters on Monday.
Ambassador Etsegenet Bezabih Yimenu arrived at the headquarters accompanied by a delegation that included Mr. Robel Admassu, Head of Political Affairs; Colonel Yirga Gebremariam, the Defence Attaché; and Colonel Tesfaye Guta, the Deputy Defence Attaché.
The CDF, who also serves as Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, received the ambassador and reflected on their previous engagement when his Ethiopian counterpart, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, Chief of the General Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Force, visited Uganda in 2024.
Gen Kainerugaba observed that such engagements demonstrate the strong and enduring ties between Uganda and Ethiopia.
He underscored that the partnership between Kampala and Addis Ababa goes beyond contemporary political agreements, noting that it is firmly anchored in shared cultural heritage and the common values of the Nile Basin. He added that these historical connections provide a “solid and enduring foundation” for present-day cooperation.
In her remarks, Ambassador Yimenu expressed appreciation to the CDF for the warm welcome and the opportunity to meet with him again during his tenure as CDF.
She also conveyed her congratulations to Yoweri Museveni on his recent re-election, expressing optimism that relations between the two countries will continue to deepen and prosper over the coming years.
The Ambassador reaffirmed Ethiopia’s strong commitment to ongoing efforts aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Uganda and Ethiopia. She further commended the CDF for his personal contribution to maintaining the cordial and brotherly relations between the two nations.
In addition to regional security matters, the two leaders also discussed other areas of shared interest, highlighting the broad and multifaceted nature of cooperation between the two countries.
