Lt Col Robert Nahamya has assumed command of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 501 Brigade following a handover and takeover ceremony held at Zoka in Adjumani District.
The ceremony was officiated by the Commander of the 4 Infantry Division, Maj Gen Felix Busizoori. Lt Col Nahamya took over from Col Nathan Bainomugisha, who is proceeding to the National Defence College-Uganda for further military training.
Maj Gen Busizoori commended Col Bainomugisha for his leadership and contribution to stabilising Zoka, Apa and surrounding areas during his tenure. He urged Lt Col Nahamya to build on the achievements made by his predecessor by effectively utilising available resources, strengthening community engagement and maintaining operational flexibility.
He also emphasised the changing perception of military training, describing it as an opportunity for professional growth and career development.
Lt Col Nahamya pledged to lead the brigade professionally, uphold the core values of the UPDF and work towards advancing the mission and objectives of the 4 Infantry Division.
The leadership transition was also welcomed by local leaders, who commended the UPDF for its contribution to security and community development in the region and pledged continued cooperation.
