The monthly government cleanliness campaign in Mukono Municipality was disrupted on Saturday following the deployment of security personnel ahead of the much-anticipated provincial football final between Kyaggwe and Gomba at Wankulukuku Stadium.
Police and army personnel were deployed across Mukono town early in the morning, restricting movement along several roads and leaving football supporters stranded as they attempted to make their way to the stadium.

The heavy security presence caused confusion among residents and supporters, with some questioning the restrictions and the disruption of their planned activities.
The situation also affected preparations for the monthly government cleanliness campaign, which is intended to encourage communities to maintain clean and healthy surroundings.
Some Kyaggwe supporters, dressed in their province’s colours, expressed disappointment over the security deployment, saying the restrictions had interfered with their plans to attend the final.

Some also questioned the government’s handling of issues surrounding the Buganda cultural institution, expressing concern over what they described as restrictions affecting the Kabaka’s leadership.
Despite the disruptions, residents who participated in the clean-up exercise commended security personnel for conducting their operations without harassment or unnecessary confrontation.
At Ggunga Village, the exercise was led by youths under the guidance of Mount Lebanon Church Pastor Samuel Lwandasa.
Lwandasa attributed the relatively low turnout to the provincial football final but thanked the government for maintaining peace and enabling communities to participate in development activities.
He said the exercise had deliberately prioritised young people because of their energy and ability to influence positive change in society.
The pastor described the youth as an important generation in shaping the country’s future and commended those who responded to the government’s call to participate in the cleanliness campaign.
He urged more young people to embrace community activities and take responsibility for maintaining clean surroundings.
