A close family member of the late Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV, has described him as a humble and gentle leader who remained deeply connected to ordinary people throughout his life.
In a tribute, Ron Kazooba Kawamara said he had watched King Oyo grow from childhood, witnessing his journey through school, university and eventually into the Crown.
Kawamara said the family had been preparing for the King’s wedding rather than his funeral, making his death particularly difficult to accept.
He described King Oyo as a devoted servant of Tooro and Uganda, saying he loved his family, the people he served and, above all, God.
According to Kawamara, the King remained close to ordinary people, remembering the names of his workers and bodyguards and ensuring that no one felt too small to matter.
He also paid tribute to the Queen Mother, saying she raised a young boy carrying an extraordinary responsibility and guided him into becoming a gentleman and a great King.
Kawamara said King Oyo’s legacy will continue through his son, the people he served, the causes he championed and the Tooro Kingdom he loved.
He remembered him not only as a King, but also as his cousin and friend, a father, son, brother and Arsenal fan.
“We were not ready to say goodbye,” Kawamara said, as he mourned the King and celebrated the man behind the Crown.
