A total of 1,526 candidates have begun their Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations at 28 centres in Kabale Municipality, with examination officials reporting timely delivery of materials and full attendance on the opening day.
The examinations began on Monday with Mathematics, following the distribution of examination materials from Kabale Police Station.
Amos Ahimbisibwe, the area supervisor for Distribution Station 058, said examination materials had been dispatched to all 28 centres on time.
He, however, cited poor weather as a possible challenge to the delivery of examination materials, particularly to centres located far from the distribution station.
Headteachers in the municipality said candidates had completed the syllabus and undergone revision ahead of the examinations. They also reported that all registered candidates had turned up for their first paper.
At Hornby High School, headteacher George Tumusiime Aturebire said two visually impaired candidates were among those sitting the examinations.
Aturebire said the school had received Braille examination papers and made arrangements to assist the two candidates during the examination period.
Meanwhile, Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson SP Nelson Tumushime warned parents and unauthorised persons against entering examination centres.
Tumushime said access would be restricted to accredited examination officials and other authorised personnel.
He urged school administrators, parents and the public to observe examination regulations, warning that security personnel would enforce restrictions on access to examination centres throughout the examination period.
