Embassy of Uganda in Berlin and VfB Pankow Partner to Promote Uganda’s Tourism through Football

The Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in Berlin has strengthened its tourism promotion efforts in Germany through a three-year football partnership with VfB Einheit zu Pankow.

Ambassador Danny Ssozi, Chargé d’Affaires a.i., accompanied by Ms. Jessica Namuddu, Second Secretary, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Berlin-based football club during an event in Pankow.

Under the agreement, the “Explore Uganda – The Pearl of Africa” brand will feature on the kits of the club’s first men’s team and G2 youth team, increasing Uganda’s visibility among football fans and the wider community.

The partnership leverages the popularity of football as a platform to showcase Uganda’s tourism potential, strengthen people-to-people relations and encourage greater interest in Uganda as a destination for German travellers. It also provides an opportunity to engage young people and build lasting connections between Uganda and local communities in Berlin.

The signing coincided with the historic Pankow derby between VfB Einheit zu Pankow and FC Concordia Wilhelmsruh. Founded in 1893 and 1895, respectively, the two clubs represent more than a century of football tradition and community spirit in the area.

The Embassy looks forward to working with VfB Einheit zu Pankow to translate this partnership into meaningful tourism visibility, community engagement and stronger Uganda–Germany relations through sport.
